Beauty, Does It Work?

First Impressions: Summer Glow

Hello my lovelies!

Now that July is old news, I was finally able to take some time and purchase some brand spankin’ new products to try for all of you. Because I have so many new things, I have decided to create a post detailing my initial thoughts on all of these products, including their wear throughout my day.

Please note that some of these products are not necessarily new items, but are new to me personally. With the exception of three or four items, I have not used any of these products before, and will be testing them out for the very first time in this post.

Let’s get started:

First off, I want to point out that I have oily and acne prone skin. I am neutral toned, but can generally pull off warm or cool tones regardless. Most of these products are considerably glowy and dewy, and I will take that into account, despite my oilier skin.

FirstImpressions

The Primer

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – This was a no go for me. It felt GREAT to put on, but did absolutely nothing for the longevity of my makeup. I received this as a sample size and would not purchase in the future.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance – This is a product that I have used a few times before. Personally, this primer doesn’t come close to my Urban Decay eye primer. I think the priming power is fine, but the texture and oiliness is not my thing. I received this as a sample size and would not purchase in the future.

The Base

L’oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow foundation “201 Classic Ivory” – I had VERY high hopes for this product as I’m in love with the Pro-Matte foundation, and I must say that this product delivered. While I’m sure the powder I used to set this helped tremendously, I did not look greasy at all during the day, and I had to blot as often as I did with any other foundation of mine (about twice daily). This foundation lasted through a ridiculously muggy and hot dinner, and just made my skin look great. My only two cons would be that the shade is just a kiss too dark for me, and the coverage is not as high as I would personally prefer. Nonetheless, I think this product is fantastic, and will be awesome during the winter months. I purchased this as a full size product and would purchase again.

Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer “Very Fair” – I’m really not sure how I feel about this product yet. Part of me likes it, and part of me regrets buying it. The pros are the consistency and texture of this product, and while the coverage isn’t super high, it absolutely looks natural and beautiful. The cons are the weird coconut-meets-chemicals smell, and the intense yellowiness of this shade, which is hard to work with for someone as pale as myself. I purchased this as a full size product and would likely not purchase again.

M.A.C Studio Fix Powder “NC15” – I know that this is a Youtube beauty cult favorite, and I now see why. This definitely set my foundation down, and gave me some pretty flawless extra coverage. It also lightened my foundation slightly, which I was actually really excited about, given that my foundation shade was a tad too dark. I Purchased this as a full size product and would purchase again.

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder “Translucent” – Again, I’m really not sure about this product. My sifter doesn’t seem to be working 100%, so I ended up using minimal product to begin with. I will keep trying this product, but so far, this sifter is enough to make me dislike it. I received this as a sample size and would likely not purchase in the future.

The Highlight and Contour

Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops “Morning Light” – I have used this product once before in a natural look. I really like this product under all of my powders as a base for highlight. It’s not overpowering, which is something I want in a liquid highlighter, especially for one as gold toned as this one. I purchased this as a full size product and would purchase again.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer “Medium/Deep” – All hail cult favorite number two. I actually think this product is all that it’s cracked up to be, but that may be the delicious chocolate scent talking. I personally think the deeper shade is a bit too intense and dark for me, but I can definitely make it work, which is not something I can say about all bronzers. Plus, it actually is matte, which I enjoy. I received this as a sample size and would purchase in the future.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder “Bronze 03” – As of yet, I haven’t been crazy impressed with Laura Mercier, but this bronzer changes everything. This bronzer is the most gorgeous color on my pasty white skin, and while it says matte, it does have the tiniest amount of shimmer, giving the most natural look. The product is very neutral toned as well, so it’s easy to use on anyone with warm or cool tones. I received this as a sample size and would purchase in the future.

Nars Blush “Goulue” – How the hell you pronounce that, I don’t know, but this was an overall OK product. The deep pink color is gorgeous, but I’m really not into shimmery blushes, as this emphasises my texture in all the wrong ways. The staying power is great, but again, the shimmer is just not something I can get past. I received this as a sample size and would not purchase in the future.

The Eyes

Kat Von D Innerstellar Palette – I rarely see cool toned neutral palettes, but upon seeing the colors, I fell in love. These shadows went on super smoothly and are very pigmented, and the colors are just…I can’t. I purchased this as a full size product and would not purchase again, simply because it is being discontinued, and I never buy duplicate palettes.

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil “M-26” – completely off topic, but it really irks me that MUFE doesn’t give their products actual names. I find the letters and numbers boring and lacking personality. I digress, this eye pencil is everything I’ve ever wanted in an eye pencil. Putting anything in my waterline generally makes my eyes tear up no matter what, and even though that did happen in this case, this liner stayed put. I know this says waterproof, but so do many other liner products that end up not working, so I was skeptical. This color is SO pigmented and SO beautiful, I just can’t say enough good things about it. I purchased this as a full size product and would purchase again.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner “Trooper” – I used this eye liner religiously about two years ago, but moved on to try different things. Recently, I came back to this, and rediscovered how much I love it. The pigment, the felt tip, the ease of use, all of these things are why I think this is such a great product. I purchased this as a full size product and would purchase again.

Smashbox X-Rated Mascara – I love Smashbox, but this mascara was very underwhelming. With such a scandalous name, I expect some sexy results. The fanned out effect was all there, but I feel like the formula of  this product dried in such a way that my lashes looked as if they were sticking straight up, and that’s not cute. I really wanted this to work, but I find myself disappointed. I received this as a sample size and would not purchase in the future.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. I hope every single one of you has a wonderful Friday, and I also hope that this post helps you make informed choices in the future.

Stay Beautiful!
