Does It Work: NYX Total Control Drop Foundation

Hello my lovelies!

WearingTheUnwearableRedFace

Today I am going to review the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation. I’ve seen a lot of buzz over this new drop foundation, so let’s get started right away!

Ingredients:

Cyclopentasiloxane, Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Propylene Glycol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Isododecane, Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylene Carbonate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Mostly undecipherable, however I notice that there is glycerin in this product, meaning it will stick well, but can cause reactions in some. This product also might contain Mica and Titanium Dioxide, so please use caution.

Claims:

The formula claims to be matte and velvety. You can build the coverage from sheer to full by adding more drops.

Instructions:

Apply using the dropper

Adjust coverage by adding more drops

Blend out with a brush or sponge

Set with a powder

My Results:

NYXFoundation1
No Foundation Used
NYXFoundation2
Initial Application
NYXFoundation3
Full Makeup Application
NYXFoundation4
After 4 Hours With No Touchups
NYXFoundation5
After 7 Hours With No Touchups

Would I recommend It:

I have mixed feelings about this foundation.

I want to start by saying that I do very much like it. I really appreciate the large shade range, and “Porcelain” isn’t even the lightest shade. The finish is definitely on the matte side, but I wouldn’t consider it as matte as my Sonia Kashuk Soft Focus Satin Matte Foundation, which is a drugstore buy as well. This foundation lasts very well on the skin, and does not appear cakey at all, no matter how much you use (I used a LOT).

However, there are some aspects of this foundation that aren’t my favorite. My biggest con is the extreme wateriness of this foundation. I prefer using a beauty blender, which works fine with this product, but I do think it soaks up a lot of product even so. I used a brush the second time around, and found that the bristles still soaked up a ton of product. I know this is not due to the brush, because I use the brush often and never have issues with it. I like the idea that you can build this foundation up with a controllable dropper, but unless you’re looking for sheer to light coverage, it’ll take more than 3 or 4 drops. I used an entire dropper’s worth for half of my face; that’s a LOT of product to use. So, yes, you can build this up, but be prepared to use up a lot of foundation in your quest to do so.

Overall, there are things I really like about this foundation, and also things I’m not so much a fan of. I think that if you like a lighter coverage, matte foundation, this is perfect for you. To me, this is an average foundation. I have many others that I reach for over this, but I will happily use it for days when I have less breakouts. At $14.00, it’s a little on the pricey side for drugstore (as is NYX in general), but I do think it is fair for what you get.

As always, this is my opinion ONLY, and you may absolutely love this foundation, or despise it, and that’s ok! There really is no universal product for everyone. If you have had a different experience or something similar, please let me know! I LOVE hearing about foundation reviews!

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an awesome weekend full of love and happiness!

Stay beautiful!
