Digs and Duds

June Digs and Duds

Hello my lovelies!

I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend, and happy Independence Day to any American viewers who celebrated!

As promised, my second half of accumulated favorites is now here. Strangely, I only have two duds this month, and I really don’t hate either one, they just weren’t doing it for me, unlike that disaster of a Milani palette I had last month. Fortunately, I placed an online order to Milani for a few products that I plan on reviewing, especially the foundation, since I either hear high praise or scathing reviews for it. I also included two skincare items this month, so if you’re an oil ball and looking for something to try, I got you.

Let’s get started:

Digs

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel – I am incredibly impressed with this gel moisturizer. This gel does a fantastic job of filling in my pores (and I don’t have huge porous skin), and keeps my oils in check, which is especially apparent when I’m wearing makeup. I love that this also keeps my skin hydrated, but not slippery. Bonus, it dries quickly after application, which means makeup can happen faster.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask – I haven’t had a lot of experience with Korean beauty products, since aside from skin color, Korean products aren’t really made for people with my skin type or full coverage preferences. What drew me to this sleeping mask was the gel consistency and fabulous watermelon smell, which brings me happiness given current events. This sinks into my skin super well, does not create a greasy film on top of my face, and really does help me get my glow on. I may like matte makeup, but I also like having that healthy glow to my actual skin, without looking like I slathered my face with butter.

No. 7 Beautifully Matte Foundation in Calico – While this shade is STILL a tad too dark for me (as are almost all foundations), the coverage is great and I really enjoy the finish. It is not as matte as many other foundations I have for that purpose, but I love to mix it in with my lighter coverage foundations, so that I can use up all of my stuff. So far, this foundation has mixed beautifully, and does not create any funky consistencies.

Too Faced Low Flush Long-Lasting 16 Hour Blush in Baby Love – I wanted a more nude blush in my life, so was happy to pick this up. At first, I was pissed at myself for managing to not use basic reading skills and see that this is a blush with a light shimmer, however I’ve grown to really like it and how natural it looks. The sheen is also great as a base for my highlighter, since I like to be a beacon of highlight. The longevity of this blush is about the same as any blush I’ve owned, meaning that all of them do fade slightly, but still stick onto my skin until I remove it.

Smashbox x Casey Holmes Spotlight Palette in Pearl – Girl, this is a good blinding highlight. I know that Casey mentioned making a more glittery highlight that wouldn’t emphasize texture, and I genuinely think she achieved that. I don’t get a ton of acne or texture on my cheekbones, but what little I might have on a given day is NEVER emphasized by this highlight. I also love that the level of glow gets more intense with each shade, the lightest color being less intense, and so on.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Androgyny Palette – While I don’t really consider this a neutral palette, every single color is beautifully pigmented and blends so smoothly. Again, I don’t see this palette as something that everyone NEEDS based on colors alone, but in terms of formula, this is top notch.

L’oreal Voluminous Original Mascara in Blackest Black – This is a pretty good mascara. Is it my favorite? No, no one can replace my Velvet Noir for me. However, out of the (few) drugstore mascaras I’ve tried, this is a great formula. the brush is pretty average in my opinion, but I saved an old Velvet Noir brush and use that in place of the original one. The formula is great and does not transfer onto my lids or under eyes.

Wet N’ Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Nice To Fuschia – This formula can get pretty gummy if you try to layer, and does cause a little butthole mouth, but I overall like the finish and formula of this liquid lip. The color is beautiful and the pigmentation is fantastic, not streaky, and not at all patchy. However, this is definitely a more drying formula, so if you are easily uncomfortable in liquid lipsticks, keep that in mind.

Duds

Maybelline New York Master Fix Setting+Perfecting Loose Powder – I don’t hate this product, but it also doesn’t compare to my Laura Mercier. I am pretty pale, and this powder actually gives me flashback if I bake, which pretty much never happens. I’ll be posting an Instagram photo to exemplify the flashback if you’d like to check it out, because it was actually quite noticeable. Other than that, this does make my skin feel pretty tight after I set, so all in all, just not something I reach for over Laura Mercier.

The Beauty Crop Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara – This mascara is great if you just want to darken your lashes, but other than that, it basically does nothing. No curling, no lengthening, no fullness, it basically just colors in your lashes. I honestly don’t know if I’m going to chuck this or hold onto it for some wishful thinking moment, since I’m not about to give a used mascara to someone, even if they supposedly don’t care.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a lovely Saturday evening.

Stay beautiful!
