My Nighttime Face Routine

Hello my lovelies!

SkincareNight

This is the second part to my skincare miniseries. You might notice it’s fairly similar to my previous daytime routine, and that’s because it is! I don’t love changing up too much between the two, since I’m so oily, and this is just what works for me.

Let’s get started:

  • CLEANSER – As I stated in my daytime post, I switch up my facial cleanser, depending on whether I’m washing my hair or not in the shower. I use the Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Cleanser (buy here), If I’m not washing my hair that night (which is most times), and the Lush Cosmetics Herbalism Cleanser (buy here), If I am washing my hair.
  • TONER – Once again, I use my same Thayers Witch Hazel with Lavender Toner (buy here), to help with my redness and overall acne issues. I generously distribute this with a cotton pad all over my face, neck, and chest if I have any breakouts.
  • EYE CREAM – For nighttime, I want a bit of a heavier eye cream to help with my under eye dryness. I use the First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy Overnight Balm (buy here) to help with that. I do NOT recommend using this during the day, even if you are dry under your eyes like myself, especially if you plan on wearing makeup.
  • MOISTURIZER – This moisturizer is (I think) meant for daytime use, but since I ran out of my night moisturizer and switched to a different daytime moisturizer, I’ve graduated this Yes To Tomatoes Daily Balancing Moisturizer (buy here) to my nighttime routine. I don’t absolutely love it because it is a cream based moisturizer, but it does the job well enough.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an awesome hump day!

Stay beautiful!

Wedding Etiquette with The Black Tux

Hello my lovelies!

With the most popular wedding season upon us, it seems super fitting to create a post geared toward wedding attire. Today I’ve teamed up with The Black Tux, an online site dedicated to renting out suits and tuxedos for a myriad of special events. In this post, I wanted to share different outfits for common wedding dress codes. Not only will I be sharing outfits generally meant for women, I will also be including outfits generally appropriate for men as well. Once again, if you’re in need of a tux rental or at home try-on, The Black Tux’s Rental page can help you out!

Please keep in mind that you don’t HAVE to wear the exact options I provide, but since this is my blog, I chose outfits that I would personally wear/would love to see a significant other wear.

Let’s get started:

Casual –

We’re not talking bum-chic, but a nice light dress or some nice pants and a button down will do the trick!

Black Tux Casual_edited

Semiformal Dressy Casual –

Think of what you would wear if you were going out on a Friday night dinner date, or a fancy bar with some friends.

Black Tux Semiformal

Beach Formal –

Obviously, you’ll want something appropriate for the beach, and very comfortable. This can be pretty similar to the aforementioned “Casual” looks.

Black Tux Beach Casual

Black Tie Optional –

This is almost halfway between dressy casual and black tie. Generally, these outfits are dark or neutral colors.

Black Tux Black Tie Optional

Black Tie –

Think back to your Homecoming and Prom days of high school.

Black Tux Black Tie

White Tie –

This is the Creme De La Creme of formal attire, so to speak. If you were/are a fan of ballgowns, this is for you.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an amazing Monday.

My Daytime Face Routine

Hello my lovelies!

SkincareDay

I’m going to be posting a miniseries on my skincare routine, with this first one being my daytime routine. You’ll notice that I have a mix of both affordable and high end products. This is not due to me skimping on my skincare, this is because these are all products I genuinely like for my skin. You can ALWAYS find skincare at the drugstore that is as good or better than high end.

Let’s get started:

  • CLEANSER – Depending on whether I’ll wash my hair or not, I switch between two different cleansers. They both essentially do the same thing, but when I don’t wash my hair, I prefer to wash my face outside of the shower, so that I don’t get my hair all wet. I keep the Lush Cosmetics Herbalism cleanser (buy here) in my shower since it’s a little more messy, and the Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Cleanser (buy here) by my sink.
  • TONER – I’ve been using toner off and on for ages, and I had started skipping this step for the past year or so. A little over a month ago, I looked up witch hazel, per my esthetician’s recommendation, and found this little gem, the Thayers Witch Hazel with Lavender (buy here). The brand has a few other scent infusions, as well as a plain one. I chose the lavender infused version, since lavender is known to be calming for redness, something I have a lot of with cystic acne. I just take a simple cotton pad, squeeze the toner on, and generously apply to my whole face and neck area, as well as my chest if I’m having any breakouts there. I am a firm believer in whatever you do to your face, you should be doing to your neck.
  • TREATMENT – I use this daily to help shrink down any topical acne that I may have, which is not often, but I attribute that to this product. My favorite treatment has been the Yes To Tomatoes Daily Repair Treatment (buy here), which I blend into my entire face, neck, and chest if there are breakouts.
  • EYE CREAM – Of all my day products, this is the only product that is 1) a sample size that I received for free, and 2) not exactly a product that I swear by, since I’m the type of person that switches eye creams almost every time I finish the previous one. Nonetheless, this Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm (buy here), is super nice and moisturizing, yet light for a daytime eye cream. This doesn’t make my concealer crease up or go on cakey either, so I consider that a huge bonus, and am able to use this generously for my extremely dry under eyes.
  • MOISTURIZER – This is the newest product that I have introduced to my routine, so I am still in the testing phase with it. However, I really like the gel consistency of this First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel (buy here). This product has a pore filling, silicone-like texture, without being heavy or slippery on my face, and keeps oil in check. I massage this onto my entire face and neck once again.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a lovely Wednesday.

Stay beautiful!

Cruelty Free Eye Makeup Tutorial

Hello my lovelies!

CrueltyFreeEyes

You might notice some similarities between this look and my cruelty free makeup look. That’s because this is the eye portion, which I wanted to dedicate a separate post to. I’m going to keep this short, as I’m in the car on a Verizon Jetpack, on the way to D.C. for my cousin’s graduation.

Let’s get started:

Eyelids:

  1. Prime the eyes and set with a powder or shadow.
  2. Blend “Safe Word” on a large fluffy brush throughout the crease, extending from inner to outer corner.
  3. Pack and blend “Dominatrix” on the outer corner of the lid, extending in a diagonal motion toward the brow. Blend this shadow into the outer crease for added intensity.
  4. On a flat shader brush, pack “Frosting” on the inner half of the lid, increasing to the intensity that you desire.
  5. Blend out the harsh edges between the two shades on the lid with “Dominatrix”. Fluff this very lightly over the harsh edge of “Frosting” in order to blend out.

Lashline:

  1. Blend “Safe Word” across the entire lashline.
  2. With a pencil brush, place “Dominatrix” on the outer third, blending halfway in.
  3. Place “Frosting” on the inner third of the lashline.

Other:

  1. Place “Frosting” on the inner tear duct as a highlight.
  2. Line the waterline with a gold toned liner.
  3. Curl and coat your lashes. Add falsies if you’d prefer.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’ forget to have a beautiful Wednesday.

Cruelty Free Makeup Look

Hello my lovelies!

CrueltyFreeFace

Today’s post is not really a tutorial, but a list of products I used on my face that are cruelty free! I know that cruelty free has been a bit of a “trend” lately, so to speak, so I decided to step out of my creative box and try to round up products that I already own for a full face.

A small bit of info on the products I will be using:

  • All of the products used on my face are CRUELTY FREE, however, not all products are specifically noted as VEGAN. Cruelty Free ONLY products will be underlined, and COMBINATION products will be in bold.
  • All brands used are either self-described as cruelty free, or certified cruelty free. If I made a mistake, I’m sorry!
  • Some parent companies of these brands are NOT cruelty free, but the brands themselves are. I will denote these individual brands with an asterisk (*) in case this is important to you in particular.
  • At least ONE of these brands is not certified to my knowledge, however, consulting the website and ingredient list has led me to believe that they are a cruelty free brand.
  • Not ALL of my beauty tools are cruelty free, however, I am very pleased that my beloved BeautyBlender is!

While you’re reading this, keep in mind that using or not using cruelty free and/or vegan makeup does not make you a good or bad person in particular. You are in control of your own choices and finances, and you have every right to spend your money on products how you choose. I am not doing this post to shame those who do not follow the cruelty free and/or vegan lifestyle, rather to challenge myself and learn more about the products I use. This post is in no way implying that I will be throwing away my unapproved beauty products. I use products that are good for ME, regardless of where they come from, and everyone should feel free to do the same!

I digress. I hope you guys find this product list interesting, and maybe you’ll learn a lot of new things about how makeup is made, just like I did!

Cruelty free full face products:

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation* – The individual brand Too Faced has been a member of PETA’s cruelty free program since 2001. However, Estee Lauder, their parent company, is not certified cruelty free because it is a company that sells in China, where animal testing is required.

  • Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer* – The individual brand Tarte is a member of PETA’s cruelty free program. However, KOSE, their parent company, is not certified cruelty free because it is a company that sells in China, where animal testing is required.

  • Under Eye Setting Powder: NYX HD Finishing Powder in Banana* – The individual brand NYX has been a member of PETA’s cruelty free program since 2010. However, L’oreal, their parent company, is not certified cruelty free because it is a company that sells in China, where animal testing is required.

  • All Over Setting Powder: Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation* – Exact same information as mentioned above with the foundation!

  • Contour/Bronzer: NYX Highlight and Contour Pro Palette* – Exact Same information as mentioned above with the under eye setting powder!

Cool Toned Purples Tutorial

Hello my lovelies!

CoolTonedPurpleFace

Because I am really pressed for time at this moment, I am going to make this introductory paragraph short and sweet by simply saying that I am FEELING MYSELF with this makeup look. I used two of the new Jeffree Star x Mannymua733 collab items with this look, one being the liquid lip “Daddy” and the highlighter “Eclipse”. I’ve never used a JSC highlighter before, and I must say, it’s glowing! I look like I have a purplish disco ball radiating from my cheekbones, and I’m not mad about it.

CoolTonedPurpleEyes

Let’s get started:

SONY DSC
Photo via Lesley Makeup

Eyelids:

  1. Prime the eyelids and set with a powder. I will be using only two eyeshadow brushes for this entire look, so be sure to wipe the first one off in between when you can.
  2. With a fluffy blending brush, blend “Cozy Grey” throughout the crease as the transition shade between the shimmers.
  3. Wet a synthetic shader brush with “Sweet Allure” and pack onto the inner third of the eyelid. Blend this slightly into the middle to start the ombre effect.
  4. On the same wet brush, Pack “sun Tweaked” onto the middle of the eyelid, blending into the first shadow, and extending slightly into the outer third.
  5. Same wet brush again, pack “After Dusk” on the outer third of the lid, blending in with the middle shade.
  6. With the same fluffy brush from earlier, blend out any harsh edges that the shimmer shadows may have created.

Lower Lashline:

1. Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 on the lower lashline. That easy!

Other:

  1. Line the waterline with either a white or nude colored liner.
  2. Curl and coat the lashes with mascara. I wanted a slightly more editorial look, so I would suggest no lashes in order to achieve this.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an amazing weekend!

Neutral Glam Affordable Makeup Tutorial

Hello my lovelies!

I know I sometimes disappear because of being a little under the weather or other things along those lines, but trust me when I tell you, I disappeared for a REALLY awesome reason this time…

IMG_2290

This is Sushi, our new dog! So technically, she resides at my grandparent’s place, but given that my family operates in a group of 6, I consider Sushi to be mine as well. Plus, we’ve bonded over plenty of walks and lots of cuddling. She is by no means a puppy at 5 years old, but she is well mannered and an absolutely perfect fit for our family. Of course, we found her by chance at the local shelter, and she was not at ALL the kind of dog we were looking for, but I think that’s the best way to find your forever pet; no judgement, just looking for the dog that gives the most love, and one that you can love unconditionally in return.

Back to the main topic at hand!

I am returning with phase 2 of an all drugstore look, this time in the neutral-but-glamorous department. ALL of the makeup products are drugstore brands, with the exception of many of my brushes, although I do have a fair amount of drugstore brushes as well. I am actually very pleased with how this look turned out, and I think it would be great for pictures, or possibly even prom!

NeutralGlamDrugstoreFace

You might notice that I have a few dry spots on my cheek and forehead area. This is because I recently had a salicylic acid peel, which causes some peeling of the skin to happen. Don’t worry, it’s not painful or anything, my skin just looks a little rough right now. As such, I used a more luminous and moisturizing foundation, as well as products that are not as mattifying. I was slightly concerned that I would be an oil ball anyway, but I was still fairly dry throughout the day because of the peel. Just letting y’all know so I don’t get yelled at for having a sunburn or something along those lines.

Let’s get started:

The Eyelids:

  1. Prime and set the lid to brow bone area.
  2. Use shade one to highlight the brow bone. This shade can also be used to clean up any messy blending that occurs.
  3. Take shade two on a large fluffy brush, and blend through the entire crease. This will be our transition shade to help other shadows blend smoothly.
  4. Focus the third shadow into the outer 2/3 of the crease. Try to be very precise with the shadow. While the transition shade can extend to the lid and brow bone slightly, the third shadow should be very focused into the crease.
  5. Place the fourth shadow onto the outer part of the eyelid, in a “C” shape. Blend inward toward the lid slightly to create a smooth transition between the crease and outer corner, as well as the lid shade.
  6. Pack shade five all over the inner 2/3 of the lid, blending with the shade four very gently. You can wet this shadow if you want something more dramatic, but I planned to wear this in the day time, so I kept it a little more toned down and subtle.

The Lashline:

  1. Mix shades two and three, and blend all along the entire lashline, until it is seamless.
  2. Blend shade four along the outer third of the lashline, connecting it up to the shadow on the outer lid.

Other:

  1. Highlight the inner tear duct with shadow six. If you want a more intense browbone highlight, feel free to take this up there as well.
  2. Line the waterline with a nude or white eyeliner. My biggest anti-aging tip is to pull down the skin with a beauty blender or brush, as tugging with your fingers will create wrinkles.
  3. Curl and coat your lashes, apply some drugstore falsies if you’d like.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a wonderful Wednesday, and be sure to love on your pets or any animal near you!

Gold Festival Full Face Look

Hello my lovelies!

Festival Face

I was basically messing around with glitter yesterday, and somehow came up with something so over-the-top, I’m just going to label it as a festival look. I’m not going to go super in depth on the steps behind the face and eyes, rather an overall explanation of what I did to reach this level of insanity. I hope you all enjoy it!

Festival Eyes

Let’s get started:

Eyelids –

  1. take any neutral toned brown shadow and blend throughout the crease as a transition shade. This will support the intense glitter and help it not look so stark.
  2. Place a darker brown shadow on the outer corners and blend outward. I blended my shadow up toward my brow as well, because this is how I prefer my shadow shape, but anything works.
  3. Take whatever golden glitter, shadow, or pigment you fancy, and pack it all over, melding into the darker shadow. I brought the glitter into my crease to mimic a lazy cut crease, since my hooded eyelids cause glitter shadow to travel up there anyway.
  4. Line the eyelid with a black liquid or gel eyeliner. I initially did a wing, but didn’t love how it looked, so kept this down to a thick bar across the lashline. You can do this step any way you want.

Lower Lashline –

  1. Take any rich, aqua colored eye pencil, and line the waterline and lower lashline from inner to outer corner. Blend out as needed.

Other –

  1. Generously coat your upper lashes if you plan to go without false lashes, or apply falsies.
  2. Optional, but I decided to coat the lower lashes with a blue mascara, as I wanted them to not take away from the aqua liner. They are still a bit darker, but not as stark as the black mascara. You can go sans lower mascara if you would prefer.

Face Glitter –

  1. Above the brows, use any glitter product (I prefer liquid) to mimic a second “brow” above your natural one. Above the glitter brow, draw tiny dots to frame it.
  2. Take the same glitter and place glitter freckles all over your face. Since I am clearly not trying to mimic natural freckles, I placed them in a more uniform shape, almost like deer spots. You can use either method, but the real benefit is being able to cover blemishes with glitter.
  3. Draw a line down the philtrum (that dent between your nose and top of your lip), skip the lips, and continue slightly down the chin. You can purse your lips really tightly together in order to get an accurate straight line.
  4. For the lips, I applied an already metallic liquid lipstick, but when would I not need more glitter? I took the same liquid glitter I have been using, placed it on my fourth finger, and blended onto my lips after the lipstick dried down. This is going to feel a little funky on the lips once it is dry, so if you have difficulties with slight texture on your lips, I would suggest skipping this step, or using an actual top coat meant for this purpose.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an awesome hump day, the weekend is coming!

Stay beautiful!

Digs and Duds

March Digs and Duds

Hello my lovelies!

I’m late again, but I didn’t have a ton of items to discuss for the month of March, so I wanted to make sure I REALLY liked the few items I had. Once again there are no duds! Unfortunately, that won’t be true for next month, but we can focus on the now, right?

Digs

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer – I took a while to finally try this, as I was pretty sure that it was overhyped and wouldn’t be as good as my Urban Decay Naked Concealer. I’m really sorry Shape Tape, I shouldn’t have doubted the universal love for you, because now I’ve become one of your admirers. You’re light enough, bright enough, and perfect for my pesky dark circles. I bow down to your superiority.

Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation – I never hear people talk about this powder, so I figured, what the hell, I’ll formulate my opinion and put it out there. I actually think this mattifies me LONGER than my M.A.C. powder, and that shit is pretty bulletproof. I have to say, while the Too Faced powder does not provide as much coverage as the M.A.C. powder, it is going to be an absolute must for me during the hot summer months coming up.

Wet N Wild Coloricon Bronzer in “Reserve Your Cabana” – I saw Jordy from Itslikelymakeup use this as an all over glowy face powder, and while I’m not usually one for the all over glowy look, I picked this up anyway. As a bronzer, I think this powder is way too light, even for my pale ass, but as a glowy powder, I think it’s pretty beautiful, if used sparingly. There is a significant amount of shimmer in this powder, so if you do pick this up and use it as a face powder, be very aware of that.

Laura Geller Baked Gellato Swirl Illuminator in “Gilded Honey” – In my opinion, this highlighter is fairly natural, which is generally not my thing, but this has created a rare exception. It is slightly too dark for me to use on its own, but I love combining it with my other favorite highlighters as a base. I know some people will disagree with me and say “Zoey, this is like applying a disco ball to your face, what drugs are you on?” but here’s the thing: If I COULD apply a disco ball straight to my cheekbones, I would. My favorite highlighters tend to have a metallic finish, Becca being a great example, and while “Gilded Honey” is not to this level, there is still something I really love about its color and shine.

Told you it would be short. That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an excellent start to your week, and I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, if you are one who celebrates.

Stay beautiful!

Spring Trends: Pink Eyeshadow and Red Lips

Hello my lovelies!

SpringOnTrend

Today’s post isn’t really a tutorial, since the eye look I’m featuring only has two colors. I wanted to show my take on a spring trend that I’m pretty into; Pink shadow and red lips. I understand that the combo sounds a little loud, however I think it’s really easy to tone down the eyes and create something unique to every individual. The great thing about this trend is that you don’t have to use one version of pink. I used a darker, more warm toned blush on my eyes, and paired a pink toned red lip with it. I think this trend is something fun and colorful, yet leans on a makeup classic that anyone can pull off.

One of my favorite things about makeup is that a product meant for one thing, can be used for so many other things. For my eyes, I used a blush in my crease, and a cheek highlighter in my inner corner, making this look completely customized toward what I like.

I know a few of you are probably tired of my multiple pink shadow looks by now, but I’m just obsessed with a little pink-eye chic (only kidding).
