Evening Glam and Camera Basics

Hello my lovelies!

I hope you’re all doing well, and welcome back to my lair. Today I wanted to post a standard OOTD, but with a little twist. Recently, I have learned about Light, a company working to revolutionize the camera as we know it in all its big, clunky glory. If you’re interested in what this company is doing with their miniature tech, you can check out their camera page for more information!

I want to talk you all through my process when it comes to taking photos, such as what camera I use, what time of the day I prefer, weather, and location, as well as how I edit my photos for each post.

What Camera Do I Use?

I am a loyal Canon customer and have used several models throughout my years of learning photography. I even used a Canon film model for my first photography class freshman year of high school. Currently, I use a Canon EOS Rebel T5, but I might be looking to upgrade in the near future. I find that the Rebel is a fantastic model, no matter what level you’re at when it comes to photography skill.

What Is my Preferred Time of Day?

Ideally, I would be able to capture all of my pictures before noon, as it is easiest to take quality pictures before the sun has reached its highest point. If the morning isn’t going to work out, I love using that small amount of time between sunset and sundown (twilight hours) to capture my photos. Because I am experienced with manual mode on my camera, I am capable of taking pictures any time of the day, however I still have my preferences, especially when I’m in a hurry and simply want to use my automatic settings!

What About the Weather?

My favorite weather to take pictures in is an overcast day. Not the most exciting when you’re out, but for pictures, it’s honestly perfect. Too much sun can really mess up your exposure, and the last thing I need is to be washed out. If I wasn’t such a diva, I would even chance a little rain, as the slightly darker skies allow me to filter in more light manually through my camera as I please, instead of attempting to deal with the sun. Overcast is perfect because it’s not too dark, and not too light, meaning I have the most control over light exposure in my photos.

What is my Ideal Location?

Generally, I try to take pictures based on what I’m doing with my day. If I’m heading downtown to State street, my ideal OOTD  photos will be amongst the crowd or against an interesting but non-distracting wall. Worst case, If I don’t have time to take pictures while I’m out, I love using the greenery in my front yard, which some of you may have seen a lot of.

How Do I Edit my Photos?

If any of you read my little disclaimer at the bottom, you know that I refuse to alter the shape of my body in any of my photos. Not only is it dishonest to you guys, it’s dishonest to myself. Essentially, the only alterations I make are a touch of skin smoothing, and adjusting the concentration of the colors, to make sure they show up as vibrant as they do in real life. The reason for skin smoothing is mostly due to light exposure. You know that saying “the camera will add 10 pounds”? I think that’s silly, but a camera can make your skin appear a little rough, especially if there is higher exposure of light.

Now that we have had an in depth discussion (finally) on how I capture my photos, let’s actually get to the outfit at hand!

Day to Night With AUrate

Hello my lovelies!
I apologize for my recent absence, first of all. As I’ve discussed previously, I have problems with depression, and really just needed some time to collect myself. This blog is important to me, and I don’t want to half-ass any post due to my mental state.
I digress. Today, I’m I want to talk about AUrate, a fine jewelry company based out of New York City. I’m incredibly intrigued by this company and happy to be working with them, namely because of the goals they present. Not only does this company ethically source their material, they are socially conscious and able to give back to the community. you can click here if you’d like to know more about their mission! Keeping their selection of gold jewelry in mind, I wanted to create some outfits that can easily be transformed from day to night. I personally love to wear earrings, so if you’re in the market, or just looking to visualize what these outfits would look like with something similar to what you own, check out AUrate’s Gold Earrings Page.

The Outfits:

Once again, my goal is for you to visualize these outfits with gold hardware in particular. I love a good pair of gold earrings, and the fact that AUrate is ethically sourcing said gold? Sounds good to me. Be sure to check out AUrate’s site if you’re in the market to treat yourself!
That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out! Also don’t forget to have a beautiful Saturday full of sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns!
Stay beautiful!

Valentine’s with Adore Me

Hello my lovelies!

Everyone knows that Valentine’s day is just around the corner, and I’ve brought you some ultra cute and romantic Valentine’s looks.

If you don’t already know, Adore Me is a New York based retailer that sells an array of women’s underwear and lingerie. I’m not even going to lie, they give my ride or die Victoria’s Secret a run for their money. Be sure to check out their amazing Valentine’s Day Lingerie Collection.

For my three outfits, I chose to stick with a typical Valentine’s day color palette, but I wanted to add some of my own flare in addition. I wanted to recreate classic Valentine’s Day looks with tiny twists.

For my Day of Love, I will be single from afar, since my SO is currently out of my reach. Instead of having a romantic night out, or a night in with my friends, I will be packing! Why, you ask? Because I will be leaving for the U.K. the very next day. I’m going to consider that a Love Day gift to myself, since it really doesn’t get any better than that!

As you may be able to tell, my first outfit is my most casual look. I took inspiration from the lavender hues I noticed throughout Adore Me’s designs, and of course, lace is quintissential for anything lingerie. I paired this outfit with some oxfords to make the look a little more adrogynous.

My second look is probably the most classic of all. If you don’t think of ‘pink’ and ‘lace’ on Valentine’s Day, then there must be something wrong with you! Just kidding. I wanted a more retro look with this outfit, so I paired my dress with some amazing brown heels.

Last but not least, and probably my personal favorite, I went for a more sultry date night look. I wanted this outfit to be sexy, but not too revealing or innapropriate for my age group. I love a form fitting outfit, especially for a night look. I decided to pair the high waisted skirt with a red crop top because one, red, and two, I loved the way they looked together. I threw on some nude heels to complete this look.

That’s all I have for you guys today. I will be offline from this Monday to Next Wednesday, but I will be sure to update on Instagram from time to time. Make sure you check out Adore Me’s site, I’ll leave you the link one more time. Remember to like, comment and subscribe to my blog. Most of all, have a stupendous weekend.

Exciting News!

Hello My Lovelies!

I know, I know, I fell off the planet again. However this was a valid reason! I had a heinous sinus infection that basically immobilized me for a couple days. While I do feel bad, I decided I would share some quick and happy news with you all!

I received an email today from a company by the name of Madison Reed, which is an all-natural hair care company. I was asked by an outreach manager to participate in a collaboration! This is still in its infancy, but this is an amazing opportunity and of course I had to snatch it up. I can’t wait to see where this collaboration goes, and I can’t wait to try out some of these products and tell all of you what I think.

I also want to thank all of you once again for taking a look at my blog. This collaboration wouldn’t have ever been a possibility if you guys hadn’t decided to give me a chance!

I will keep all of you updated on what happens, as I don’t want to rush into this new journey too quickly. Nonetheless, I am very excited and can’t wait to see what unfolds!

Stay Beautiful!

P.S. – check out this site, it’s super snazzy. https://www.madison-reed.com/
