May Digs and Duds

Hello my lovelies!

It’s that time of the month again (no, not your period), and while I was pretty busy and unable to get this post up properly last month, I’m finally here to do it now!

Let’s get started:

Digs

Thayers Witch Hazel Alcohol-Free Toner in “Lavender” – my aesthetician recommended that I find some witch hazel and use it as a toner. However, she suggested a brand on Amazon, and I generally hate having to resign myself to the mercy of buying beauty products online. I found this little gem at Target, and while I was originally looking for the plain O.G. one, I found Lavender only, which is also great for calming redness. This toner is alcohol-free, moisturizes, helps with any inflammation and redness, and has reduced my breakouts dramatically. Do I still break out? of course, I have oily skin; but most of my skin is made up of old scarring which I am currently treating. Maybe it’s psychosomatic, but I genuinely believe this has made a huge difference with my cystic acne.

Urban Decay Self-Adjusting Complexion Primer – I honestly have not heard any great press about the new UD primers, and I have not tried them all myself, but I am a huge fan of this one. Again, I struggle with redness from my scarring and breakouts, and this really does help combat the issue. It also helps keep my oiliness at bay, which is great for summer. The important thing about this product is to use it correctly, and not too much of it, or it will crumble off your skin in a weird, unappealing way. A little goes a long way, it is long lasting, and the effect looks super cool as you apply it.

M.A.C 133 Brush – While this brush is meant to be a blush brush, I like to use it for highlight, because I’m extra as hell. I know that everyone has said before that M.A.C brushes are fantastic, but I just want to let you know again; they’re pretty fan-fucking-tastic. This brush picks up a ton of product, even from highlighters that are generally more sheer, and blends them out so beautifully, it’s pretty unnecessary to go back in and blend out with the BB or a powder brush. I’ve cleaned it a good 3 to 4 times now as well, and the bristles have still maintained their softness.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics x MannyMua Collab Skin Frost in “Eclipse” – I’ve never owned a JSC highlighter, so this was new for me, and let me tell you, this product exceeded my expectations. This is pretty perfect for my skin tone (although it could work on you medium kids, I don’t know about dark), and is incredibly pigmented. Dead serious, I did a little scream when I put this on because it was so awe inspiring. I think that for the amount of product you get and the quality, $29.00 is a fair and reasonable price. *Side Note* I’ve gotten a few emails from some of you asking why I use JSC cosmetics given the *drama* surrounding him. Much like what I stated with my cruelty free post, I will use what’s best for me, and what I like. If I were to stop using JSC cosmetics, then I would also need to stop using KVD and Too Faced to be an equal opportunist; I’m not doing that. If my decision to use JSC genuinely bothers you, I’m sorry, but this is my blog, and I am allowed to like these products, drama aside.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics x MannyMua Collab Velour Liquid Lipsticks in “I’m Shook” and “Daddy” – First off, these names make me giggle, I love them and they are so Manny. Second, the colors are gorgeous. “Daddy” is an amazing brown-toned nude that looks pretty edgy on my complexion, and “I’m Shook” is an amazing Coral/Red/Pink mixture. I own quite a few of these lipsticks already, and I absolutely love them, so I’m so happy that this collab included these two new shades. Once again, not here for the drama about these colors being reboots, guys. Welcome to the world of makeup, where all brands essentially make 3 of the same color.

Duds

I’d like to point out real quick that I only realized just before this post went live that I had “Dudes” instead of “Duds”. H’durr.

Soap and Glory On Heck of a Blot Instant-Perfecting Power Primer – This product is not bad, however it just didn’t do anything for me in terms of oil control, which is what it claims to help with. Maybe I’m just too oily for this primer, but I really felt that this didn’t do nearly as good of a job as my UD Self-Adjusting Primer in combating any of my problems. I still want to finish it, so I tend to mix it with my UD primer now. I would say, maybe if you’re dry but have some mild T-Zone issues, this could probably work out. I’m bummed, because it was such an amazing price, and a rare occurrence at the drugstore (decent oil control primers).

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Instant Retouch Pressed Powder – Man, Soap and Gory and I don’t jam together right now. I really like the finish and quality of this powder, I think that aspect is GREAT. However, this color is a disaster for ghosts like me. Even when I use darker foundations, this powder looks like I smeared yellow dye right under my eyes, and ends up darkening the area badly. I’ve seen medium toned individuals use this powder no problem, but I really think it’s meant for that specific range, since I’m not sure this would look great on deeper tones either. Again, good quality, just a horrible color for me.

Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine in “04 Venice” – I’m not even going to sugarcoat it, I fucking hate this thing. The applicator picked up no product, the shadows creased SUPER bad, and I do not have oily eyelids and always prime. I tried a glitter glue to see if that would help; still awful. I tried virtually every brush possible, and my fingers; still horrid. I don’t get this product, and I know I’m being harsh, but I’m here to be honest with you guys. Milani is practically non-existent in the drugstores surrounding my neighborhood, so generally my only option is online ordering. While I will absolutely try more Milani products (Foundation in the works), this does not give me high hopes, especially since I ordered this after a fellow beauty blogger highly recommended it. Again, because I have to order online most times, I wont be including this brand often, NOT because I’ve decided that after one product, I hate it. The colors are so pretty and they’re decently pigmented, I just want to incinerate it because everything else is the worst.

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a lovely Monday. If you have any bad weather heading your way, I currently feel your pain.

Stay beautiful!

March Digs and Duds

Hello my lovelies!

I’m late again, but I didn’t have a ton of items to discuss for the month of March, so I wanted to make sure I REALLY liked the few items I had. Once again there are no duds! Unfortunately, that won’t be true for next month, but we can focus on the now, right?

Digs

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer – I took a while to finally try this, as I was pretty sure that it was overhyped and wouldn’t be as good as my Urban Decay Naked Concealer. I’m really sorry Shape Tape, I shouldn’t have doubted the universal love for you, because now I’ve become one of your admirers. You’re light enough, bright enough, and perfect for my pesky dark circles. I bow down to your superiority.

Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation – I never hear people talk about this powder, so I figured, what the hell, I’ll formulate my opinion and put it out there. I actually think this mattifies me LONGER than my M.A.C. powder, and that shit is pretty bulletproof. I have to say, while the Too Faced powder does not provide as much coverage as the M.A.C. powder, it is going to be an absolute must for me during the hot summer months coming up.

Wet N Wild Coloricon Bronzer in “Reserve Your Cabana” – I saw Jordy from Itslikelymakeup use this as an all over glowy face powder, and while I’m not usually one for the all over glowy look, I picked this up anyway. As a bronzer, I think this powder is way too light, even for my pale ass, but as a glowy powder, I think it’s pretty beautiful, if used sparingly. There is a significant amount of shimmer in this powder, so if you do pick this up and use it as a face powder, be very aware of that.

Laura Geller Baked Gellato Swirl Illuminator in “Gilded Honey” – In my opinion, this highlighter is fairly natural, which is generally not my thing, but this has created a rare exception. It is slightly too dark for me to use on its own, but I love combining it with my other favorite highlighters as a base. I know some people will disagree with me and say “Zoey, this is like applying a disco ball to your face, what drugs are you on?” but here’s the thing: If I COULD apply a disco ball straight to my cheekbones, I would. My favorite highlighters tend to have a metallic finish, Becca being a great example, and while “Gilded Honey” is not to this level, there is still something I really love about its color and shine.

Told you it would be short. That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have an excellent start to your week, and I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, if you are one who celebrates.

Stay beautiful!

August Digs and Duds

Hello my lovelies!

I may be a little late, but I would never miss the month’s digs and duds!In this particular post, I don’t have a lot of new things to share, however, if you take a look at my First Impressions post, you’ll get a fairly in depth reviews of a lot of products!

Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation – I’ve not seen much talk about this foundation, and I honestly can’t understand why. This is such a beautiful, natural-yet-full coverage foundation, and gives the best satin finish. This foundation is a perfect drugstore option for when you want something that isn’t dewy or matte (48.99 at Target. Available in 16 shades).

Maybelline Super Stay better Skin Powder Foundation – I always used to think that putting powder foundation over my liquid foundation was a big no, but when you find the right powder, it’s a huge yes. I LOVE using this powder to touch up throughout the day, because it’s super light, and doesn’t appear cakey in the slightest. I am VERY impressed with this powder, especially for one that comes from the drugstore ($8.99 at Target. Available in 8 colors).

NO 7 Shimmer Palette “Bronze” – While this Palette is way too dark for me to act as a highlighter, I love this for my eyes. The color payoff is very nice, and the colors go beautifully with my blue eyes ($14.99 at Walgreens. Available in 2 other colors).

Akira Uptown Chiffon Bomber “Yellow” – This bomber has been my shit as of lately. While it’s a little too hot to use at the moment, I feel like this color speaks to me on so many levels. I’ve had a lowkey obsession with bomber jackets as of late, so stay tuned for some posts on those (On sale for $20.00 at Akira).

“Gasoline” by Halsey – I first heard this song in an offshoot music video for Suicide Squad, and immediately went to hunt down this song on itunes. I love how different it sounds, with the different pitches and instruments used.

Duds

Revlon Colorstay 16 Hour Eyeshadow “505 Decadent” – This eyeshadow quad is just not doing it for me. The pigmentation is very blah, and I have a hard time picking up any product onto a brush. The colors are very pretty, however, I have a hard time wanting to use this product at all.

That’s all I have for you guys today! Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it really helps me out. Also don’t forget to have a wonderful start to your week!

Stay beautiful!

June Digs and Duds

Hello my lovelies!

It’s that time again. Time for another update on what’s hot, and what’s not.

Let’s get started:

Digs

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer – I decided to find out what all the hype was about for these primers, and I’m genuinely impressed. On occasion, some matte primers are SO matte, they pretty much ball up on your face when you try to apply makeup on top. This primer sinks into my skin so well, keeps me matte but not looking dry, and stays put ($37.00 at Sephora).

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation – I LOVE this foundation! The coverage is absolutely full, especially for a drugstore buy, and is so comfortable to wear. The only con is the tiny shade range, which doesn’t go much lighter  for my pale skin, and definitely does not cover any person of significant color ($6.99 at Target).

Morphe Concealer – While I find it weird that a concealer has the vanilla scent associated with lipsticks, I don’t find it unappealing. This concealer reminds me of the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, but in a much more positive way. The coverage is great, and so is the shade range. If you don’t like thicker concealers, (again, think NARS) then this isn’t for you. However, if you’re looking for an inexpensive concealer that doesn’t crease, check this winner out ($4.99 at Morphe.com).

Smashbox Step-By-Step  Contour Stick Trio – While I don’t have a ton of use for the bronzer and highlighter sticks, being that they’re too orangey and too yellowy for me respectively, I absolutely ADORE the contour stick. As a neutral toned pale girl, I can generally get away with a warm or cooled toned contour, but personally, I prefer cooler tones. this stick is the perfect color for someone as pale as myself, and the formula is so blendable and amazing on the skin. The only downside is, once again, a lack of range for all of the darker girls and boys out there ($45.00 at Sephora).

NARS Contour Blush Olympia – Again with the cooler tones, I very much enjoy this shade for contouring. The yellow shade IS light enough for me, and I use it to carve my cheekbones under my contour even more, for a clean look. I love using the darker shade to set my cream contour, or just by itself. Luckily, this duo does come in two other shades, which absolutely cover many darker girls and boys. However, unlike the Olympia shade, the darker duos tend to become more warm toned, so always be careful if you happen to be a cool toned individual ($42.00 at Sephora).

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Pearl – Often times, the makeup world only wants to contribute to light through tanned skin tones, which ends up leaving everyone else out. This generally bothers me a LOT, so I love seeing brands like Becca contribute to ALL colors of the spectrum. Finally, there is a highlight that’s white enough to show up dramatically on my skin. It is full of chunky, glittery goodness, and applies so smoothly, with not a choppy line in sight. Major kudos to Becca for keeping EVERYONE in mind when it comes to beautiful products ($38.00 at  Sephora).

BH Cosmetics Waterproof Lip Liner in Retro – I genuinely don’t think I’ve found a better lipliner out there. This liner stays on no matter what I do, and provides a beautiful base for any lipstick. The formula is creamy, glides well on the lips, and is super pigmented. Bonus, they’re SO inexpensive for such a quality item (Currently $4.50 at bhcosmetics.com).

Madewell 9″ High-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans: Button-Through Edition – Since I’m so short, these crop jeans hit me right at the ankle, which is a perfect cut for me. I love that these are high rise, button through, and a lighter wash. If you’ve got a larger behind like yours truly, check out Madewell jeans, they ACTUALLY sit above your bum without that awkward dip in the back. Bonus, Madewell stores will give you a free hem if you need it ($128.00 at Madewell).

“Panda” by Desiigner – I know this song came out back in December, but I just now decided that I like it. I really don’t understand a word the guy is saying, but I really like the beat, an it’s something I can bob along to. Hopefully, this new rapper comes out with some more interesting beats.

Duds

I’ve got absolutely ZERO duds this month! It’s been a great month for new products so far, and I can’t wait to dive into July and discover more new things!

That’s all I have for you guys today. Please remember to like, comment, and subscribe, it means a lot to me. Have a wonderful Independence day if you’re in the USA!

Stay Beautiful!
